Over 400 former deviant teaching followers join faith programme

More than 400 former followers of deviant teachings, mainly from GISB Holdings, will attend voluntary faith-strengthening programme in Johor.

JOHOR BAHRU: More than 400 former followers of deviant teachings will participate in a faith-strengthening programme this Sunday.

The majority of participants are former followers of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd, with former Ahmadi Religion followers also joining.

Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the programme will be held at a mosque in Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi.

He confirmed that all participants are attending voluntarily after completing counselling and awareness sessions.

“We are pleased that they are coming of their own accord,” Mohd Fared told a press conference.

“Many of them are individuals who have previously faced legal action and other measures.”

Meanwhile, he said the state government continues to strengthen enforcement against deviant teachings.

Recent amendments to four enactments address the spread of such teachings through social media.
