Perak aims to boost industrial growth through LuMIC and AHTV, attracting quality investments, creating skilled jobs and strengthening automotive and maritime sectors
IPOH: Perak aims to strengthen its position as a national hub for high-impact industries through the development of Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) and Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), announced under Budget 2027.
Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the announcement demonstrated a shared commitment by the state and federal governments to attract quality investments and generate high-skilled employment opportunities.
“For Perak, this is more than just a development project. It recognises the state’s immense potential to become a key driver of the nation’s industrial growth.
“LuMIC will strengthen the maritime, logistics and manufacturing sectors in Lumut, while AHTV is expected to position Tanjong Malim as a high-tech automotive hub with a more competitive supply chain,” he told Bernama.
Loh said the tax deduction incentive of up to RM5 million for eligible relocation costs incurred by local automotive vendors moving to AHTV would encourage more local companies to participate in the automotive ecosystem.
He said the aim was to help local vendors move beyond supporting roles and become key players in the global supply chain, particularly in engineering and high-value services.
“These incentives can drive this transformation and ensure that the economic benefits generated by AHTV’s development reach local industries directly,” he said.
Loh said the state government would work closely with the federal government, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), InvestPerak and industry players to ensure that incoming investments translated into quality jobs, local vendor development and technology transfer.
“We want investments flowing into Perak to create a multiplier effect across the state’s economy, not only in terms of investment value, but also through job creation, skills development, technology transfer and the growth of local companies.
“The state government is ready to assist investors by ensuring that issues involving land, infrastructure, workforce requirements and industrial support are coordinated effectively,” he said.
Loh said the development of LuMIC and AHTV was in line with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, which prioritises high-technology industries, including automotive, electric vehicles (EVs), electrical and electronics (E&E), and related sectors.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, announced when tabling Budget 2027 that efforts to develop LuMIC as a maritime hub in Lumut would be intensified to attract investment and create jobs.
Under Budget 2027, the government will offer tax deductions of up to RM5 million on eligible relocation costs incurred by local automotive vendors moving their operations to AHTV between Jan 1, 2027 and Dec 31, 2030.
