Police bust drug syndicate, seize RM13.8 million in meth and ketamine

Six men arrested as police seize 273kg of meth and 101kg of ketamine worth RM13.8 million in Klang Valley and Perak raids

PETALING JAYA: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the seizure of methamphetamine and ketamine worth RM13.8 million.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said six local men, aged 26 to 46, were arrested in raids last Monday.

The first operation took place in a Petaling Jaya supermarket parking basement.

Officers inspected a Toyota Alphard and two Perodua Myvi vehicles, arresting five suspects.

Police seized 263 plastic packages containing 273kg of suspected methamphetamine.

They also confiscated 98 packages holding 101kg of suspected ketamine.

A second raid at a Perak petrol station led to the arrest of a sixth suspect acting as a lookout.

Investigations revealed the drugs were smuggled from a neighbouring country via a ‘rat route’.

The syndicate used four-wheel drive vehicles to transport the supply into Malaysia.

Drugs were then moved to the Klang Valley for distribution on the local market.

“The total amount of drugs seized is estimated to meet the needs of 1.7 million addicts,” Hussein said.

Urine tests showed two suspects were positive for marijuana and two for methamphetamine.

Five suspects have prior records for criminal and drug-related offences.

All six are remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police also seized two four-wheel drive vehicles and a sports utility vehicle. – Bernama
