The order seeks to align the national immunisation schedule with best practices from peer, developed countries.
This follows a decision by US vaccine advisers to drop a long-standing recommendation for all newborns to receive the hepatitis B shot.
A White House factsheet outlined the directive for the health secretary and CDC director.
It states they must determine if other countries’ practices are superior to current US recommendations.
If so, they are directed to update the United States core childhood vaccine schedule accordingly.
The update must align with such scientific evidence and best practices from peer, developed countries.
The order also mandates preserving access to vaccines currently available to Americans.
