Kelantan KPDN seizes over eight tonnes of subsidised cooking oil

Kelantan KPDN seized over eight tonnes of subsidised packet cooking oil in a Tumpat operation, with the total seizure valued at RM65,825.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living seized more than eight tonnes of subsidised packet cooking oil in an integrated operation yesterday.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Pengkalan Kubor Region 3 Marine Police Force in Kampung Bunohan, Tumpat.

Its director, Azman Ismail, said an Isuzu lorry was detected under suspicious circumstances during the afternoon operation.

Enforcement officers trailed the lorry and conducted a raid, during which the driver and two assistants fled into nearby bushes.

A search uncovered about 450 boxes of branded subsidised packet cooking oil, suspected of being diverted for unauthorised use.

The KPDN seized the lorry, valued at RM45,000, along with 8,330 kilogrammes of cooking oil valued at RM20,825.

The total value of the seizure is RM65,825.

Azman said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods with intent to commit an offence.

Efforts to track down the suspects in the surrounding areas for nearly two hours were unsuccessful.

No one has come forward to claim ownership of the vehicle and the goods.
