Sarawak deploys 300 officers for Christmas price control scheme

Sarawak KPDN mobilises over 300 officers to enforce festive price controls on 14 goods, ensuring supply and preventing profiteering during Christmas.

KUCHING: The Sarawak branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has mobilised more than 300 officers statewide to ensure compliance with the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme for Christmas.

Its director, Matthew Dominic Barin (pic), said the operation involves enforcement and price monitoring personnel stationed at strategic locations.

They will monitor supply availability and price compliance through inspections at business premises like supermarkets and retail shops.

“Inspections are conducted to monitor compliance and to investigate consumer complaints, so that any violations by traders can be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.

He spoke after inspecting compliance with the Christmas SHMMP at a supermarket here.

The scheme will be enforced for five days starting today, involving 14 types of price-controlled goods in Sarawak.

Items under price control include tomatoes, red chillies, large yellow onions, and imported potatoes from China.
