Search for missing Penang angler suspended pending new leads

The SAR operation for a 23-year-old man missing while fishing near Juru has been halted and will only resume if new information surfaces.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The search and rescue operation for a man reported missing while fishing near Jalan Ban Sungai Belanak in Juru has been suspended pending new leads.

The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received a call from police on Saturday evening regarding 23-year-old Ariff Aiman Ishak.

The complainant, the missing man’s brother, reported that his sibling had not returned home.

He confirmed that his brother’s helmet and fishing equipment were still left on the platform.

Firefighters have conducted the SAR operation since Saturday but the victim has yet to be found.

The operation was officially halted at 6.30 pm today.

“The Royal Malaysia Police operations commander said the search for the missing man, feared to have drowned, has been temporarily suspended and will resume if new leads emerge,” said Penang JBPM assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis.
