MALACCA: The borderless vehicle registration system is expected to be implemented throughout the country beginning May 1, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
He said that under the system, vehicle suppliers can obtain the registration number for the state required without having to go to the state concerned.
For example, he said, a vehicle buyer in Malacca wishing to obtain a Johor registration number can apply to do so at the Malacca Road Transport Department (RTD) without any charge.
"The system is to cater to the needs of customers as there are road users who are interested in a certain registration number. To meet customers' requirements, the government has introduced the borderless registration system," he told reporters after closing the basic course for enforcement officers (Grade N41) and assistant enforcement officers (Grade N17) at the Road Transport Academy here today.
Also present at the ceremony was RTD Director-General Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad.
Asked whether the mySIKAP computerised service can handle the borderless registration system, Ab Aziz said the system is becoming more efficient.
He also disclosed that vehicle ownership transfer using the biometric system for individuals had started from April 1, which aimed to prevent the falsification of documents. – Bernama
