PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will hold a dialogue among its partners to get a consensus on the proposed private member bill to implement the hudud.
In an attempt to placate its coalition members, PR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the dialogue will be held to address the contentious issue regarding plans by the Kelantan government to table the private member bill in Parliament in June, which will allow the state to enforce hudud by early next year.
Asked if he supported PAS move, he said: "We have to listen to their (PAS) position and to make it clear that it is fundamentally different from the series of 'provocations' by Umno leaders."
He stressed that if the Federal Constitution has to be amended to accommodate the provisions of hudud as part of the law, a consensus must first be reached within the coalition.
On the battle for the presidency between him and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar indicated that one of them may withdraw.
