Six including 4 cops charged with graft

    BUTTERWORTH: Four policemen, a Home Ministry enforcement officer and a Seberang Prai Municipal Council officer were charged with graft at the sessions court here today.
    Sergeant Major Mohd Yusob Md Rodzi, 40, of the South Seberang Prai district police headquarters, claimed trial to two counts of graft amounting to RM2,000 before sessions court judge Julie Lack Abdullah.
    He was charged with trying to get Mohd Hasfikin Mohd Said to pay him RM1,000 each on two different occasions as an inducement to close a case.
    He was alleged to have committed the offences at room No 19 of the South Seberang Prai district police headquarters on May 9 about 2pm and on May 12 about 4.15pm.
    Another policeman, Corporal Nor Roslan Che Ros, 53, was charged with receiving RM250 from a counterfeit DVD and VCD trader, Ng Lap Ken, so as not to take action against Ng, on Oct 1, 2013, about 6.35pm at No 89, Jalan Tingkat Kurau 4, Taman Chai Leng here.
    Sergeant Muhd Pakhri Hassan, 54, was then produced and charged with receiving RM500 from Ng so as not to take action against the latter at the same place at about 10.05pm on Oct 17, 2013.
    Corporal Shahirul Abdul Hamid, 40, was charged with receiving RM500 from Ng so as not to take action against the latter at the same place at about 10.35pm on Oct 9, 2013.
    Butterworth-based Home Ministry enforcement officer Alias Md Yusof was charged with receiving RM1,500 from Ng so as not to take action against the latter at Restoran Pelita, Taman Chai Leng, at about 8.55pm on Sept 24, 2013.
    Seberang Prai Municipal Council officer Amran Che Anin, 38, was then charged with two counts of trying via SMS to get Mohamed Noor Azman Shaik Othman to pay him RM500 on two different occasions so as not to issue a fine. He was alleged to have committed the offences at No 28, Level 1, Taman Penanti, Jalan Penanti on March 7 2014.
    Lack granted bail at RM8,000 each, with one surety each, for the six and fixed Nov 19 for mention after all the accused claimed trial.
    Muhd Pakhri was defended by Rafael Abdullah, while the rest were not represented. The prosecution is led by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecutors Mohd Firdaus Sekman @ Abdullah and Ahmad Ghazali Muhammad Nazri.
