GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan will not hesitate to take legal action against the general manager of Penang Global Tourism (PGT) Ooi Chok Yan if there is defamatory content in a statement he made, said Penang Gerakan Youth head H'ng Chee Wey.
H'ng said Ooi's statement that state Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow lied in the issue over the closing of the Wet World Wide (WWW) Theme Park in Batu Ferringhi here, was an act of defamation.
He claimed that Ooi had stated that there were no records in PGT nor in its annual financial statements that PGT had ever invested in WWW or suffered financial losses when the park closed.
"But State Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow has provided evidence that the state government via PGT collaborated in the project at a press conference on Aug 14, last year.
"News reports of the press conference was published in the digital edition of the Malay Mail newspaper on Aug 14, 2013, as well as news coverage in The Star dated Aug 15, 2013, on the collaboration between the Theme Park Concepts and Services Sdn Bhd (TPCS) and PGT," he said at a press conference here yesterday.
The theme park, was opened in December last year, but reportedly closed in early October after strong waves damaged equipment at the theme park.
"He (Teng) just asked the extent of the related collaboration and the assistance provided, but the parties concerned dare not answer this question until now. They did not dare to give a candid explanation but accused Teng of lying. Actually, the one lying is PGT and Ooi must resign for acting unprofessionally," H'ng said. – Bernama
