Noh: Najib gave me mandate to continue leading S'gor Umno

TANJONG KARANG: Datuk Seri Noh Omar said he was given the mandate to continue leading Selangor Umno by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
The embattled Selangor Umno liaison chairman said this was stated by Najib, who is also the Umno president during their meeting on Nov 18.
"I told the prime minister I had no objection if he wanted to change the leadership of Selangor Umno and Barisan Nasional as my position is not important. What is important is Selangor Umno and BN.
"The prime minister however, urged me to continue leading (Selangor Umno and BN) and he will evaluate my performance from time to time," he told reporters after the mass circumcision ceremony of Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency here, today.
At the meeting, he also gave guidelines on how to raise Selangor Umno's image by focusing on the younger generation and going down to the ground to meet with the people.
Noh, who is also Tanjong Karang Umno division chief said that he will bring the Tanjong Karang Umno division culture into Selangor Umno.
Tanjong Karang became Selangor Umno's stronghold after all three seats were won by Barisan Nasional (Umno) candidates in the 13th general election (GE13).
Noh retained Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat while Sulaiman Abdul Razak and Datuk Shamsuddin Lias won the Permatang and Sungai Burong state seats.
"At Tanjong Karang, we practice solidarity, work as a team and receive only one directive. I am sure that many in Selangor Umno can work with me."
He denied allegations that new faces were not given the opportunity to progress in Selangor Umno. Of the 22 divisions in Selangor, only one chief was not challenged in the party elections while Wanita voted in 9 new faces, Youth voted in 19 new faces and Puteri voted in 17 new faces.
Noh came under pressure after several senior Umno leaders including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad urged the Selangor Umno leadership to quit after losing GE12 and GE13. – Bernama
