Target of 28m tourists within reach - Mohamed Nazri

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia continues to strive towards its 28m tourist target in 2014 despite the twin tragedies involving Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flights MH370 and MH17 earlier this year.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said his ministry has not lost sight of the target despite what had befallen the country.
"Despite the double tragedies that we've seen, we're still on target to receive the 28m tourists we're aiming for during Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
"We worked very hard, we never gave up. This is the reason why we believe that by the end of this year we will achieve the targeted figure," he said when officiating the symbolic groundbreaking of the five-star Amanari Tanjung Tuan resort, here tonight.
Mohamed Nazri pointed out that with Malaysia being ranked favourably on the list of the world's most visited countries, its tourism sector would continue to be a major driver of the country's economy.
Amanari is the flagship project by Tian Hong Holdings Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between Tian Hong Group from China and its Malaysian partners.
It is scheduled for completion in 2017. – Bernama
