JPDC to repair defective houses in Taman Bayu Damai, Pengerang

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Petroleum Development Corporation (JPDC) will repair defective houses in Phase 1 of Taman Bayu Damai in Pengerang by March.

JPDC said in a statement that Tebrau Bay Constructions Sdn Bhd, as housing estate designer and contractor, would repair all construction flaws and defects including the drainage and piping systems as well as rehabilitating the housing site due to ground settlement.

"The Johor State Economic Planning Unit (UPENJ) has obtained the assurance of the contractor to repair all damages reported until the end of Dec 31 and works are expected to be completed by March."

"At the same time, a monitoring team will visit the 274 houses involved to ensure the defects are repaired and they will seek the verification of house owners on the matter," the statement said.

JPDC said the monitoring team comprised representatives of UPENJ and a construction consultant appointed by the state government.
In this regard, all Taman Bayu Damai residents were told to cooperate with the monitoring team during its visit.

According to JPDC, new defects reported from Jan 1, 2015 would be repaired by the contractor as long as the houses are still under the defect liability warranty period.

However, in cases of major defects, repairs will take a longer time, depending on the type and level of damage.

Taman Bayu Damai Phase 1 is a new residential area for residents relocated from Kampung Sungai Kapal, Kampung Langkah Baik and Kampung Teluk Empang, Pengerang, which were acquired for the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex.

Residents' complaints cropped up when the new houses they moved into several months ago started to crack and show various defects. – Bernama
