Cop denies bribery charge

BALIK PULAU: A police constable was charged at the Sessions Court today with five counts of soliciting and accepting RM100 to RM700 from an Indonesian woman last year.
Muhammad Shaparin Sulaiman (pix), 24, from Jalan Paya Terubong in Air Itam, based at Air Itam police station, claimed trial to the five charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009.
On the first charge, Shaparin had denied asking RM700 from Indonesian Lestari Budiharto as an inducement for not taking action against her for not possessing valid travel documents at about 8pm at Air Itam police station on Oct 11, last year.
On the other charges, Shaparin also denied accepting bribes from the same woman at different times and places last year.
Judge Sitarun Nisa set bail at RM4,000 in one surety for all charges and fixed March 23 for mention pending submission of documents and also to allow the accused to appoint a counsel.
MACC prosecuting officer Hanizal Mazni prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented.
