Malaysians keen on seeing education reform

JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak will launch the National Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025 on April 7.
Deputy Education Minister P. Kama­lanathan said its aim is to give the national higher education system a quantum leap.
Speaking to reporters after attending the sixth town hall meeting at University Technologi Malaysia, he said, till date they have received more than 8,000 suggestions, written feedback and input from various sectors besides the public hearing which showed Malaysians are keen on seeing an education reform.
"We thank those who have given their input through forum, internet, dialogue and town hall briefing sessions. I must say that the blueprint has been received well by all quarters," he added.
He said the plan has been tabled in the Cabinet two weeks ago and the response from ministers have been very encouraging and good.
Kamalanathan said the 10 shifts in the plan will place Malaysia's education in the world map.
"Malaysia is already in the top ten of the education hub, we need to do better," he added
He said the aim of the transformation is to produce holistic, entrepreneur-minded, and balanced graduates who not only excellent academically but also in their careers and personal lives.
"We do not want our academically excellent students to end up with in the picture of being hand-cuffed in the newspapers," said Kamalanathan.
He added, they should uphold good values and refrain from criminal activities.
Earlier, secretary-general II of Education Ministry Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang said, they hope to see close cooperation between universities and the industrial sector, especially with the new funding system, so that graduates will be employed.
