KUALA LUMPUR: Police investigations into the whistleblower who leaked the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) land deal between 1MDB and the Tabung Haji Board took off yesterday with investigators gathering documents obtained from the Tabung Haji headquarters here.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today investigations under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) will be centred on the leak pertaining to the TRX land deal and power abuse by those behind it.
He said police had on Friday discussed the case with the Attorney-General Chambers and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) before deciding to commence a probe on a police report lodged by Tabung Haji officials on Thursday.
An online news report last week drove the debt-ridden 1MDB into deeper controversy dragging the the Tabung Haji Board along when it alleged that RM700 million from the latter's funds were used for the TRX land deal.
However, Tabung Haji officials on Thursday clarified that the sum mentioned was incorrect but admitted that RM188.5 million was indeed spent to acquire plots of land at the TRX.
