LRT3 construction work starts Q1 next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, project owner of the RM9 billion light rail transit line three (LRT 3), is planning to start construction of the LRT 3 by first quarter of next year, after obtaining approvals from the authorities.
The 36km-long LRT 3 line aims to link Bandar Utama to Johan Setia (Klang), with 25 stations via elevated and underground train lines. The project is expected to be completed by Aug 31, 2020 and will serve over two million people along the alignment by year 2025.
According to its group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz, the public inspection for its proposed alignment and details on LRT3 railway scheme will run for a month from May 15 until Aug 14, in which the feedback will be collected at seven selected locations.
He said the public inspection will also include the proposed land acquisition plans and features of the proposed stations.
"We have to document all feedbacks from the public. We will have to go with the majority of the public who supports the alignment," Azmi said.

"There will be some issues on certain areas. So we expect the public to be more detailed. If they have some reservations, what are their reservations, so that it will be easier for us to address the issues," he added.
He said the public inspection locations include Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD) headquarters, Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) and Majlis Perbandaran Klang (MPK).
During the session, Azmi also revealed that so far seven companies have collected the tender documents to be the project delivery partner (PDP) for the LRT3.
However he said currently there is no company that has submitted the tender document yet, noting that submissions will close by the first week of June.
"The PDP (tender document submission) is still open. We will take a month to evaluate, and by July we will be ready with the recommendations for approval of the successful bidder," he added.
Under the agreement, the PDP will receive a fee of 6% of the total aggregate work package contract value. Should the eventual total cost of the project be less than or equal to the target cost, then the PDP shall be entitled to the full fee.
But if the project cost is more than the target cost, then the PDP fee shall be reduced in accordance with an agreed formula.
Meanwhile, Azmi said Prasarana is currently working on the budget for the land acquisitions for the LRT 3 project, noting it has identified certain corridors but declined to disclose further.
"We are still working on the numbers for the land acquisition. There is some value that we have already allocated for the land acquisitions that we expect will be sufficient. We will share that later," he said, noting the RM9 billion is just for the project cost, which exclude the land acquisition costs.
The proposed LRT3 project will connect the Western Corridor of the Klang Valley to the KL city centre and will be integrated with the existing and future public transport networks at four stations including One Utama with (MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line), Station 3 with Kelana Jaya Line, SIRIM with BRT Kuala Lumpur – Klang and Klang Town with KTM Komuter.
