SEBERANG PRAI: Non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Pembela Nasib Melayu Malaysia (Gerakan Merah) has urged the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to expedite investigations into the fatal shooting of nasi kandar restaurant owner Syed Amin Jainul Abidin.
Its president Mohd Ali Baharom or better known as Ali Tinju, said he believed the deceased who was previously charged for screaming vulgarities at a Road Transport Department (RTD) officer last year was killed to silence him.
"There must be some element of corruption in the case in which Syed Amin spoke about last year.
"I believe his death is somehow connected to his complaints towards the RTD last year, I have no doubt at all", he said during a press conference yesterday.
He urged the authorities, especially the MACC to conduct a thorough investigation so justice would prevail.
Mohd Ali also urged for witnesses to the shooting incident to come forward and assist police in their investigations.
"I hope whoever saw the incident or any one who has information to come forward and help police in their investigation by providing details, don't take the matter own your own hands", he said.
He also said that a police report on the matter will be lodged by the wife of the deceased, Masita Abu Bakar.
Last year a six-minute video clip of Syed Amin ranting at the Batu Uban RTD over renewal of his car's road tax went viral on social media .
He was seen screaming profanities towards the officers in expressing his anger with the department and was subsequently charged at the magistrates court.
On Feb 11, Syed Amin, 46, who also owns a car wash business, was shot at point-blank range at Jalan Datuk Keramat after meeting friends outside a club.
Also present during yesterday's press conference was Syed Amin's friend, Mohd Azman Ali ,51 who expressed sorrow over his death.
"Syed Amin is the best among the best, he often helps people in need, especially orphans and the poor, his loss will be deeply felt," he told reporters present.
Mohd Azman also rubbished rumours that Syed Amin was involved in secret societies.
"Whoever said that is a liar, it is not true", he said.
Meanwhile, Masita when met at Wisma Perkeso later in the day, said she is still consulting with her lawyer on whether to lodge a police report on her husband's killing or not.
"I am still feeling very disturbed and confused about what I am going to do next, so I have carefully consider my options," she told reporters.
She said she is currently trying to cool herself down and getting ready to be independent in taking care her husband's businesses.
Masita received RM1,500 to help with the funeral from Perkeso Penang manager Shaharuddin Waled and hopes that the police will expedite the investigation and detain the culprits so that she can have justice and closure to her husband's death.
