GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the sale of land by the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda).

State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said the matter was of public interest.

He questioned how plots totaling 3.4ha could be sold at RM1.427 million as the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) had valued the land at RM16.636 million, noting the discrepancy was RM15.209 million.

"The Penang administration feels this involves the interest of the public," he added before lodging a report with the MACC.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's political secretary Wong Hon Wai and fellow state exco Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.

Afif also hoped that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak can look into the issue as Perda was under the purview of the Prime Minister's Office.
