KLANG: Some 300 newspaper and magazine distributors, vendors and media representatives got together to commemorate the Selangor Magazine and Newspapers Distributors Association's 21st annual dinner at Klang Executive Club here last Saturday.
It was a night that saw many distributors coming from various States to commemorate the occasion and to catch up with latest development in the world of print media.
The guest of honour Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Berhad's Group managing director, Datuk Mohd Noordin Abbas assured the association members that although times are challenging for the traditional print media with the meteoric rise of social media sites and also the online news portals, the print medias will continue to give full support and cooperation to them.
"In the earlier days, your fathers would dutifully patrol the lane each morning of the housing estates at the exact hour on their bicycles shooting rubber stringed newspaper batons, impeccably aimed at the porch of the houses. To deliver newspapers is a respectable job and is an enormous task done so efficiently," he said.
He said although times are tough and challenging for the print media partners, they will continue supporting and contributing what they can towards the association.
Mohd Noordin hoped the relationship between the association and the print media partners will continue on a win-win situation.
He also expressed regret over incidences where the newspaper vendors became the target of criminals.
The association president Perumal Ramasamy thanked theSun for its contribution of RM1,300 and shirts.
Many of them walked away with goodie bags and more than 100 lucky draw prizes and gifts.
