KUALA KANGSAR: The Barisan Nasional (BN) is unperturbed over the four-cornered fight in Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said they accept any party keen to contest the seat.
He said the coalition was not bothered on whether it is two-cornered, three-cornered or four-cornered battle.
He said BN would battle it out with other parties in the by-election and would defend the seat at all costs.
"We (BN) will give undivided support to our candidate Datin Mastura Yazid," he told a press conference after visiting the Ulu Kenas polling district today.
Kuala Kangsar will see a four-cornered battle with Mastura up against Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad (PAS), Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli (Amanah) and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
Ahmad Zahid said the issue of Mastura being chosen as candidate should not be seen as "forcing" her as he had discussed it with her and her family.
"You can ask her sons," he said, adding that the BN election machinery is moving smoothly in ensuring Mastura's message is conveyed to the voters.
Mastura is not campaigning in the by-election as she is under "iddah" (a period when a woman cannot leave her home after the death of her husband).
Ahmad Zahid also called upon Kuala Kangsar BN election machinery to make sure the party wins the seat with a bigger majority.
On former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad planning to campaign in Kuala Kangsar, Ahmad Zahid said he welcomed the former premier to the constituency.
