GEORGE TOWN: About 120 people took part in the "Fun-Cycling" event at Kensington Gardens near Penang Turf Club here yesterday morning.
The event covered an 8km cycling route from Kensington Gardens to Penang Municipal Park and Botanical Gardens and back to Kensington Gardens.
It was organised by Berjaya Land Development Sdn Bhd, a wholly subsidiary of Berjaya Land Berhad (B-Land) the developer of Kensington Gardens,Parcel 1 of Jesselton Villas.
B-Land executive director Eason Phan and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Building Department director Yew Tung Seang flagged off the cyclists from two local cycling clubs, LP-Mountain Bike Club and G Club.
Phan in his speech said the event is not only to encourage cycling as a recreational activity but also to introduce Kensington Gardens' healthy living initiative such as the ample space walkways and lanes for walking, jogging and cycling surrounded by lush greenery.
The event was then followed by a tree planting exercise led by state exco for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Phee Boon Poh where five saplings were planted in the grounds of the luxurious residential area.
Located on the same project site at the Penang Turf Club, Kensington Gardens entails 26 acres of 69 guarded freehold bungalow lots surrounded by lush vistas and a pristine forest hillside.
