Quarry worker hurt in backhoe mishap

JOHOR BARU: Just two days into the job, a quarry worker had the misfortune of having to endure more than hour of excruciating pain after a backhoe with a load of stones he was driving, overturned, near here, this morning.
Kulaijaya Fire and Rescue Department operations commander PB Zuhairi Rozali said the victim, Mohd Hafizi Zakaria Abd Aziz, 26, was driving up a 45° slope at Kuari Bukit Batu, Jalan Air Hitam-Kulai when the backhoe overturned at 8am.
"The backhoe flipped over, pinning him under. Four firemen arrived at the scene at 8.20am. They proceeded to free Mohd Hafiz at 8.25am and managed to extricate him at about 9.30am.
"He was found to be still alive and was sent to the Kulai General Hospital for treatment. The victim had just started working at the quarry two days ago," he said when contacted by Bernama, here, today. — Bernama
