BUKIT MERTAJAM: The public prosecutor yesterday changed the charge against a 19-year-old youth from driving under the influence of drugs to reckless driving at the Magistrate Court here.

Ng Pei Ven pleaded not guilty to the new charge after it was read to her in Mandarin by the court interpreter.

The charge comes under the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a minimum two-year prison sentence and a minimum RM5,000 fine as punishment for those convicted.

Ng was initially charged on March 24 with driving under the influence of drugs to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of a vehicle, causing the death of Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, at 7.50am at KM134 of the North South Expressway (NSE) on March 14.

Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap fixed Aug 28 for mention and ordered Ng to tell her lawyer to be present at the next date.

The college student was discharged and acquitted of administering drugs into her body in connection with the fatal accident in March on May 12 after her urine tested negative for drugs.
