GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained six Penang football team supporters for allegedly throwing stones at a bus ferrying Kedah fans after a Super League match on Tuesday night where the home side won.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Farid Al Atrash Wahid said the suspects aged between 16 and 40 were picked up after police traced the licence plates on motorcycles believed to be used in the 11.30pm incident.
He said the unruly supporters were tailing the bus and started to throw stones at the vehicles after behaving wildly.
Mior Farid said police have identified 10 suspects of which six have been detained and urged the remaining to give themselves up.
"The bus driver has lodged a police report along with two Kedah supporters," he added in a press conference today.
Mior said initial investigations showed the cause was due to provocation and the case is being investigated for rioting under the Penal Code.
He warned football fans to behave properly before, during and after football matches and not engage in hooliganism.
