HAVE you ever walked into a house and have that strange feeling of unease? Or why things that were going so well for you before suddenly started falling apart?
From the feng shui perspective, such happenings could be due to afflictions caused by bad feng shui.
Simply put, feng shui is about creating a harmonious environment. It’s the ancient Chinese art of placement to improve our health, harmony, longevity, career, and wealth by enhancing the energy flow within an environment.
Feng shui is a popular method in determining the arrangement of a home. In other words, it is a design genre all on its own.

But this design element is done not only for the visual aesthetics that it can impart to a home but also as a way to activate a house’s many benefits, especially the positive energy it can draw into the house.
There are many different schools, methods and formulas that feng shui masters utilise in designing a building, and based on their calculations, they then identify the various good and bad sectors in a property.
The primary focus of a feng shui practitioner while analysing a property is to activate the good sectors and counter the ill effects of the bad sectors.
It is not a one-size-fits-all science; hence, each property requires a closer look, and the right technique needs to be applied to suit a particular situation.
Implementing feng shui principles in your building can set the stage for the good things in life.
Hence, look out for such problem areas in your building to avoid further misfortune.
» A toilet adjoining a kitchen
For hygienic and aesthetic reasons, this is a taboo. Ensure that the design of your home does not have such an arrangement.
» A kitchen at the entrance or in the centre of the building
Such bad design can bring ill health and sickness to the occupants. Also, having the Fire energy in the wrong sector can curb career growth and prosperity.
» A stairway directly facing the main entrance, or before a bedroom
Avoid such a design. Also stairs that are sweeping, circular or with open gaps between the steps are bad, as these would deplete the qi.
» Sharp corners and heavy overhead beams cutting cross the bed or work desk
Such features can cause afflictions and create disharmony in the home.
To identify the good sectors in your home, here are some features to take note:
» Square or rectangular rooms, with flat ceilings and sufficient natural light and ventilation
Such a design draws in good energy, ventilation and freshness. This supports the occupants, and strengthens their energy in turn. Such rooms also ensure proper circulation and unhindered energy flow.
Also the dimensions of the rooms will enable proper planning of the placement of furniture and furnishings.
Furniture that is good must be of appropriate size and design which will allow easy movement around it and let you see anyone entering through the main door.
» Green and clutter-free garden
Flowers and fruit trees attract birds and butterflies, and this promotes peace and abundance, hence cultivate your garden and keep the building clutter-free.
Ultimately, feng shui is all about creating a happy and harmonious space, hence ensuring that the feng shui remedies are unobtrusive and natural, and in sync with your home.
