KANGAR: Perlis Umno will not restrict its members from going to talks or campaigns organised by any party in the state.
State Liaison chief Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said however, that Umno members would not be allowed to be involved in the organisation of the activities.
He stressed that disciplinary action would be taken against members involved in organising talks or campaigns for the opposition.
"I wish to remind Umno members not to breach discipline; on the other hand, they should place party interest above their own," he told reporters after chairing a state liaison meeting here last night.
Shahidan was commenting on claims that many Umno members were present at a talk given by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Arau on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, he said it was decided in the meeting last night that Kangar, Padang Besar and Arau including the three wings would hold their divisional meeting simultaneously on Sept 3.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to open the meeting to be held at Dewan 2020; more than 7,000 delegates are expected to attend.
Shahidan who is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said Perlis Umno would move a motion to make it compulsory for parties recruiting foreign workers to adhere to the 1:1 ratio formula.
"For example, if a company employs 1,000 foreign workers, it must also take in the same number of local workers," he said. — Bernama
