Pos Malaysia launches 'Places of Worship' stamp collection

GEORGE TOWN: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos) today launched a special stamp series to showcase the well-known places of worship of different religions in Malaysia.

The stamp collection features Masjid Kapitan Keling (Penang), St. Francis Xavier Church (Malacca), Sri Kandaswamy Kovil Temple (Kuala Lumpur), Gurdwara Sahib Shapha (Kuala Lumpur) and Perak Cave Temple (Perak).

Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the stamp collection showcases the uniqueness of Malaysia where people of different ethnicity and faiths can live in peace.

“These stamps can also promote the tourism industry in Penang especially in its heritage enclave,” he said at a press conference after launching the collection at Masjid Kapitan Keling today.

The First Day Covers (FDC) with free vouchers are available at 55 sen each while the exclusive folders are being sold at RM6.35.

The complete collection, inclusive of all philatelic products, is available at RM73.65 per set.

Pos Malaysia Group chief operating officer (COO) Datuk Azlan Shahrim meanwhile said the collection highlighted the harmony Malaysians enjoyed.

“Malaysia is well known for the diversity of people who can live harmoniously together,” he added.

Avid stamp collector, Muhammad Farhan Daud, 35, was full of praise for the new collection after being one of the first to buy the set.

He said these initiatives will paint Malaysia in a good light and show the country as a welcoming melting pot of cultures.
