BUKIT MERTAJAM: For the fourth straight year, veteran runner Tan Chin Fong has beaten the competition and emerged champion in the Seberang Prai Municipal Council's Tower Run.
The 53-year-old Tan Chin Fong put down her fourth win to grit and a bit of luck.
"I do my best in training. I feel quite lucky that I can retain the title of champion in this category again. "I will continue to take part in this contest as long as I can do it," Tan told theSun yesterday.
In the Tower Run, participants have to run a 7-kilometre route before running up 412 stairs of MPSP headquarters building.
There were 329 runners in this year's event.
Tan completed the course in 35 minutes and 16 seconds. For her effort, Tan, who is from Bagan, Butterworth, received a trophy and RM500 cash.
Thye Jia Wen, 13, won the Girls' junior category, having finished the run in 34 minutes and 11 seconds. She received a trophy and RM500 cash.
Thye, who is from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Union, said her mother Ch'ng Lay Kheng encouraged her to take part.
Success has now motivated her to take part in other running competitions as well.
Earlier, MPSP president Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif said the Run was organised to encourage residents in Seberang Prai to exercise and practise a healthy lifestyle.
