KLANG: A 33-year-old woman was arrested by the police for allegedly abusing her 11-year-old stepdaughter.
The drama unfolded on Jan 3, when the girl's mother, 34, was told by her ex-husband that their daughter complained of pain and swollen eyes.
At about 3pm the following day, the mother allegedly went to her ex-husband's house in Taman Seri Perantau in Port Klang to check on her daughter, and was shocked to see her swollen eyes.
The girl then told her mother that she was repeatedly beaten on the head with a broomstick by her stepmother on Jan 1.
The mother then immediately rushed her daughter to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) and a police report was lodged at the South Klang district police headquarters yesterday.
The district police chief ACP Alzafny Ahmad who confirmed the incident said the mother and her ex-husband divorced about seven years ago.
The ex-husband won custody of the girl, who is the second of three children from their marriage.
The girl is currently receiving treatment at HTAR and was reported in stable condition.
Following the report lodged, police immediately detained the stepmother at 2.30pm yesterday.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse.
