Thaipusam has become major tourist event says, DAP
IPOH: Thaipusam is a religious event which has become a major tourist attraction and thus should not be marred by unpleasant incidents, said DAP vice-chairman M.Kulasegaran.
"There must there be no moral policing and violent threats," said the Ipoh Barat MP, adding the people who come for religious ceremonies and events should know that they should dress appropriately.
As for Thaipusam, he said, it is important that devotees dress accordingly as a mark of respect.
"Its unfortunate that over the years devotees have not paid attention to the dress code and this has irked and raised concern among many worshippers," said Kulasegaran.
Last week at a temple in Ipoh, he said, he was told that there were tourists not allowed in due their revealing clothes and in shorts.
He said people should learn to dress decently when going into places of worship.
