BESUT: A solemnisation ceremony still went on despite the house was flooded in Jabi last Saturday.
Sinar Harian reported the special and memorable day for Suriati Arifin, 19 and her spouse Shahrul Nizam Zainal Abidin, 21, who had the ceremony at 9.30pm at the bride's home in Kampung Gong Ubi Keling despite the house being flooded.
Shahrul Nizam was quoted saying that the fast rising water caused them to go ahead with the ceremony as all the ways to the surau was flooded.
"When the groom's convoy arrived at about 9pm, the water was only ankle deep but within 30 minutes it was already up to an adult's calf level. When all was present the water was 0.2m deep. We decided to go ahead with the ceremony since everything else was going on as planned," he said.

He said the ceremony went on with him seated on the bed which was brought out of the room while the imam was seated on the chair with his legs in the water. Family members who witnessed the ceremony was also standing in the water.
Guests were served a simple fare while all stood in the water.
"Most guests were also trapped for a few hours since the roads were inaccessible," Suriati said.
