Sarawak cabinet ministers take pledge to be corruption free

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg today led nine state cabinet ministers and 18 assistant ministers in taking and signing the pledge to be free of corruption.
Among those present at the pledge-taking ceremony were Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Paul Low Seng Kwan.
After the ceremony, Abang Johari chaired his first state cabinet meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here.
Meanwhile, the MACC congratulated Abang Johari, his cabinet line-up and the assistant ministers over their new appointments and for creating history today by becoming the first state government to sign the Corruption Free Pledge (CFP)introduced by the commission.
This initiative showed the seriousness of the Sarawak state government in ensuring more transparent administration and also free of any corrupt practice and abuse of power, it said in a statement issued here today.
The MACC said the CFP was yet another new effort introduced by it which emphasised on the pledge and promise to be made in their capacity as individuals to uphold the responsibility of avoiding from getting involved in any corrupt practice and abuse of power while carrying out their duties.
It hoped the initiative could preserve and raise public confidence in the MACC and the Sarawak state government in the continuous effort of fighting corruption and power abuse, the statement added. — Bernama
