GEORGE TOWN: Residents of Chew Jetty have something to cheer ahead of the Chinese New Year festival after receiving RM100,000 from the state government.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state always looked after the welfare of residents as the money contributed was for the annual Jade Emperor God's festival.
He said he hoped the funds could be put to good use.
"I am happy to present the state government's contribution for this purpose," he said in a press conference after presenting a RM100,000 mock cheque to Chew Jetty's adviser Datuk Seri Chew Cheong Kang.
Nonetheless, Lim said the RM130,000 walkway extension undertaken by developer Zubicon Sdn Bhd was carried out upon request from the residents.
He said signatures were collected from the community and the state proceeded with the works carried out by the developer.
" It took three weeks to complete," he said, accompanied by Zubicon managing director Lim Beng Keong.
