KUALA LUMPUR: A secretary and an accountant, both former staff of a joint management body (JMB) of a condominium here, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for allegedly embezzling RM1.5 million from the body since 2010.
The 53-year-old former secretary was detained by an MACC team at his home at Jalan Kelang Lama at 10.30am while the 27-year-old former accountant was held in Sungei Petani, Kedah at 1.30pm.
Sources said the JMB that manages over 500 condominium units uncovered the embezzlement in an internal audit after its staff were not paid their salaries since June last year.
It is learnt that the former secretary was initially a general manager of an associate company of the JMB in 2010.
In 2012, he was seconded to the JMB as its secretary.
Both suspects are expected to be remanded at the Putrajaya magistrate's court tomorrow.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki who confirmed the arrests said investigators have also seized stacks of documents and laptop computers belonging to the suspects and have recorded statements from several witnesses.
