Police close in on four suspects over armed robbery in Sri Petaling

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are now closing in on four individuals believed to be involved in an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in a shopping mall in Sri Petaling, here today.
Brickfields police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said in incident at noon, the suspects carted away 20 trays of various jewellery worth about RM700,000 and a pistol that belonged to a security guard manning the premises.
He said the security guard was hit by one of the armed suspects before being ordered to lie on the ground.
"The other suspects had smashed the display cabinet with a hammer and ran away with the jewellery," he said when contacted here today.
Sharul said the suspects also took the security guard's revolver before they fled the scene in a gold-coloured Toyota.
Initial investigations revealed that five employees including the security guard were in the premises, he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
