30 new fire stations to start operations next year: Noh Omar

PUTRAJAYA: Thirty new fire and rescue departments will start operations next year, said Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.
He said following the opening of the new stations, 960 new personnel would be recruited.
"For the intake of new personnel for the 30 fire stations, we have applied to the Public Service Department," he said at a press conference at the ministry's monthly assembly today.
In the same event the Fire and Rescue Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SWCorp (Solid Waste And Public Cleansing Management Corporation) aimed at increasing cooperation in related fields, providing information concerning safety and hygiene issues, carrying out social responsibility activities, the application of good hygiene practices and culture of reuse, reduction and recycling (3R) .
The second MoU was related to the privatisation agreement between the ministry and the Malacca Foundation to change the status of the land for the development of a Fire and Rescue Department in Cheng, Malacca. — Bernama
