Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) awarded prizes to the winners of the PIDM MoneySmart Campus Challenge 2013 Best Video and Best Song categories.
Wan Ismail Naqiuddin bin Hasbi from Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan, won the Best Video category while Adreena Putri binti Azhar from Universiti Malaya won the Best Song category.
The competition was organised as part of PIDM’s nationwide education programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
“PIDM has been conducting the PIDM MoneySmart education programme since 2010 to promote financial awareness and literacy among students in secondary schools and institutions of higher learning through briefings, road shows and competitions,” said PIDM Communications and Public Affairs general manager Rozita Ahmad.
“This is the first time we are adopting a creative-based competition for students of institutions of higher learning,” she added.
The education programme to date has directly benefitted about 500,000 students and 3,000 teachers from 1,500 schools and 150 institutions of higher learning.
Wan Ismail produced a video entitled Joli-Joli that is in line with the theme of financially savvy habits and practices.
Winning RM5,000 in cash prize, the short movie accurately portrayed the importance of making sensible financial choices, and impressed the judges with its originality and creativity.
Adreena was awarded RM3,000 in cash prize for her composition and rendition of the original song entitled Masa Depan Kita.
“We believe that financial education is more effective when presented in the form of edutainment, songs or videos. It gets the message across to the younger generation faster as it is well-received compared to conventional approaches.
“It also provides students with the opportunity to showcase their musical talents and multimedia skills,” Rozita said.
The challenge had 27 submissions for the Best Video category and 20 submissions for the Best Song category from public and private institutions.
Besides Facebook voting, entries were evaluated based on accuracy and relevance of the content to the theme, originality, creativity and variety of ideas, techniques used, overall quality and impact.
