AG: Ministries, govt agencies, depts fail to comply with financial regulations

KUALA LUMPUR: Ministries, government agencies and departments have failed to fully comply with the stipulated financial regulations in maintaining accounting records said Auditor-General Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad (pix).
In the latest, 2016 Auditor-General's Report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today Madinah said supervision and monitoring at several department and agencies had been poor.
This is the first audit report released since Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad took over as the new Auditor-General on Feb 20.
The report comprised the federal financial statement, financial management, activities of the ministries, departments, statutory bodies as well as management of the government-linked companies.
It also stated that its accounting records were properly maintained and updated accordingly.
"Meanwhile, the audit of financial management revealed that several ministries, departments and statutory bodies did not fully comply with financial regulations.
"Among others, these weaknesses were due to negligence in compliance with stipulated financial rules or procedures, insufficient manpower, lack of training in financial management, inadequate supervision and close monitoring," the report stated.
The National Audit Department had informed all the various government department heads on all matters reported and got their confirmation.
