KUANTAN: The third victim who was seriously injured in an accident involving a Proton Iswara car and a 12-tonne lorry carrying sand in Kampung Sungai Soi yesterday, died last night.
Kuantan district police chief, ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said Awang Ariffin, 76, from Felda Jengka 12 in Maran, near here, died at 8pm while being treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, here.
"The lorry driver, who fled the scene after the incident, has so far not come forward to lodge a police report. Police will mount a search for the driver," he said when contacted, here, today.
In the 5.25pm mishap, fishmonger Tuan Mohd Zulhaizize Tuan Temeran, 38, and his mother, Kelsom Ariffin, 66, died at the scene when the car they were travelling in was hit by the lorry.
Awang was Tuan Mohd Zulhaizize's stepfather.
Another victim, Zuraidah Shamshuddin, 34, who is the wife of Tuan Mohd Zulhaizize, was also severely injured and is still being treated at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Kelsom's daughter, Tuan Sharifah Ramlah Tuan Temeran said she was told by her cousin, who was at the scene, that the lorry driver had excused himself on the pretext of contacting the police before fleeing on foot.
"That's why we are disappointed and unhappy with the driver. We, the siblings, have discussed on taking legal action against the responsible party as we've lost three family members at the same time," said the 44-year-old woman at her house here.
The remains of the victims were laid to rest at the Kampung Peramu Muslim cemetery at 10am today. — Bernama
