KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today called on all Malaysians to celebrate the Kaamatan and Gawai Festivals and appreciate the contributions of every ethnic group in the country.
The Prime Minister in a video message uploaded on his Twitter and Facebook sites said farmers worked hard to produce crops to benefit all the people in Malaysia.
The Kaamatan Festival or Harvest Festival is celebrated on May 30 by the Kadazandusun community to celebrate a good harvest together with the other races in Sabah.
The Gawai Festival is celebrated by the Dayak community comprising the Iban, Bidayuh and Kenyah tribes to symbolise the end of the harvest season on June 1 and 2 each year.
"Therefore on Gawai and Kaamatan Festivals, I would like to invite all of us to celebrate these two festivals as they symbolise the contributions of each and very ethnic group in the country which we appreciate together.
"Happy Gawai and Kaamatan Festivals, Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai," he said in the one-minute video. — Bernama
