KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Wildlife Department does not recognise the United States-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Boreno Wildlife Preservation (BWP) as its conservation partner in Sabah because the NGO's presence in the state has not gone through the proper channel.
Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said while the department welcomed any organisation within Malaysia and overseas with genuine intention and proper credentials to assist the government in biodiversity conservation in Sabah.
"This, however, needs to be done in an official manner, through the departments and ministries concerned, " he said in a statement today.
He was responding to a news portal report quoting a source who was concerned about some foreign-based NGOs peddling misled information to raise funds in the name of conservation. — Bernama
