GEORGE TOWN: The two condominiums near a collapsed road in front of luxury three-storey houses in the Tanjung Bungah neighbourhood are safe, said the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
In a statement, the council said the consulting engineer has given an assurance that the condominiums are not at risk, following checks conducted after the storm over the weekend.
The council said on Monday a stop work order has also been issued to the housing project which has yet to obtain a certificate of occupancy.
MBPP has also fixed barricades to cordon off the area for safety purposes.
The barricades are to prevent the affected zone from further landslides and soil erosion.
"The consultant has also been given 14 days to prepare a detailed report on the rehabilitation of the project," according to the statement.
The storm in the wee hours of Sunday had caused panic among residents in the vicinity, after the affected road gave way and damaged a few luxury terrace houses.
The storm over the weekend caused flooding in many parts of Penang, and has claimed seven lives to date.
