Malacca: Couples wanting to marry in Malacca must update their addresses in the state as part of the conditions for marriage applications here so as to prevent false information.
Director of the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) Md Azhan Samat said this was important information and in compliance with the regulation of the 2015 Order of the Malacca Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation Chief Registrar which had been enforced since January last year.
He said under the regulation, couples wanting to marry in Malacca must reside in the state for not less than three months and their addresses must be the same as in their identity cards.
"The regulation was drawn up for their own good, not just to make it difficult for them, and to make it easier for Jaim too, if something happened, there is an address we can go to," he said in a press conference held here today.
Md Azhan was clarifying the issue of marriages and addresses outside Melaka which had gone viral on Facebook with many netizens voicing their unhappiness as it seemed to make it difficult for couples to update their addresses at the National Registration Department. — Bernama
