Cuepacs to propose new remuneration system

LABUAN: Cuepacs is drawing up a proposal paper on a new remuneration system for civil servants for submission to the government, according to its president, Datuk Azih Muda.
He said Cuepacs wanted the government to implement the five-year review of the civil servants' salaries because it had not been done since 2002.
He said the salary revision was necessary in view of the higher prices of houses and goods.
"We would like to stress our loyalty to the government of the day. We understand the current financial situation of the country but we must remember that house prices are too high for those in the lower grades.
"Those earning RM2,000 surely cannot afford to buy a RM150,000 house, especially those with many children, and they always end up renting houses," he said at a press conference after a pre-retirement briefing to Labuan civil servants here.
Azih said Cuepacs felt that the government must ensure that civil servants were not heavily burdened when it came to feeding their families and providing education to their children.
"It is important to see to it that civil servants can afford to buy a house. If they cannot afford to buy a house during their service now, what can we expect them to do after retirement?
"Therefore, we (Cuepacs) will continue to make recommendations to the government on salary increments for the 1.6 million civil servants," he added. — Bernama
