DBKL cancels landfill work at Kg Melayu FRIM

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has cancelled and revoked the letter of approval for a landfill project for the construction of Jalan 3/1 and 6/1 at Kampung Melayu Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Kepong here.
DBKL Enforcement Department director Ab Salim Mansor said the directive was made after the company's contractor for the project was found to have failed to meet the terms set by DBKL through a warning notice issued by DBKL effective July 3.
"Since the notice was issued, the place is no longer operational and the contractor has already taken note of this ... until now DBKL is still monitoring the project site," Ab Salim said when contacted by Bernama today.
The notice was issued after garbage rather than earth and rocks were being used to fill up a 15m deep ravine, even after the contractor had been warned several times. It was feared that the waste would affect the construction quality of the road project which would open an alternative route for residents to enter and exit the highway nearby.
Prior to the notice on July 3, DBKL had also sent a "stop work order" notice due to complaints from the residents' association to force the contractor to remove the rubbish piled on the site.
Ab Salim also asked residents not to worry because the road construction project would be continued.
Meanwhile, landfill contracting company's director, A. Selva claimed that it was sabotaged by certain quarters to make it difficult for the company to comply with DBKL's terms, and eventually was penalised by DBKL.
Speaking to Bernama, he said they had incurred losses of about RM300,000 previously having to remove piles of garbage discarded by others.
He intended to hold a meeting with DBKL on the matter. — Bernama
