Disabled Malaysian man found alone in Umphang, Thailand

BANGKOK: A differently-abled Malaysian man has been spotted in a small district of Umphang in the Tak Province, about 2,000km from his home town of Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
A fellow Malaysian, Lukman Ismail, who was transiting en route to Bangkok and Malaysia, said he spotted Abdullah Daud, 44, along with his old bicycle at a convenience store in the mountainous terrain district, located about 220km from Mae Sot near the Thai-Myanmar border.
"Abdullah yearns to come back to Malaysia but he just does not know how. He does not have any identification documents, passport or money," said the superbike ridder from Jertih, Terengganu to Bernama, here today.
Lukman said the differently-abled man, who appeared in bad shape, still remembered his MyKad number, resulting him (Lukman) to do background check via a friend in Kelantan.
He said Abdullah's last known address was Jalan Bayan, Kampung Dusun in Kota Bharu while the man's parents had died sometime ago.
"Abdullah was taken care by his aunt who was working at the Kota Bharu Hospital after the death of his parents. He did not know how he ended up in Umphang and did not remember the date he entered Thailand nor from which border," said Lukman, adding that his friend in Malaysia had confirmed that Abdullah had been suffering from mental problem and physically challenged.
According to Lukman, Abdullah had been relying on the generosity of the public for food and turning the pavement of streets or public areas as shelter.
Bernama learnt that the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok has been notified about the man and that they are gathering more information. — Bernama
