District council to investigate euthanised dog case

PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Pilah District Council said that they have initiated investigations into claims that council officers had killed a dog that got stuck in a drain despite the dog's owners pleading for them not to do so.
A source from the council's office told theSun that they can confirm that the incident did indeed happen but urged the public not to listen to rumours that are being spread on social media.
"We are aware that this incident happened but it did not happen as claimed on social media," said the source.
"We will investigate the matter and we have begun investigations. We will also inform the media of our findings in the next few days either via a statement or a press conference," she said.
Social media was abuzz today when Facebook user Lily Devan posted the story on her page.
She claimed that when her dog got stuck in the drain, she had called the Fire and Rescue department for help but she was directed to call the council officers.
She said that after the council officers rescued the pup from the drain, they killed it despite her family pleading with the officers that the dog was theirs and that its licence tag had fallen out before it got stuck in the drain.
Lily said that the family's plea fell on deaf ears and the men continued with the euthanasia.
Efforts to contact Lily proved futile at press time.
