HULU SELANGOR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has shown a strong commitment to ensure the victory of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

He said this was demonstrated by the presence of BN chairman and UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the candidate nomination process today.

He added that Wanita UMNO (UMNO’s women’s wing) had also been mobilised its machinery to support the candidate’s campaign.

“We have no problem working with the component parties of the Unity Government... today, even the BN chairman who is also Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was here to show support.

“I can see a very high level of commitment from BN... UMNO’s women’s wing has also been mobilised, and with the addition of the PH machinery, we are confident we will be able to run a successful campaign,“ he said.

The Minister of Transport told this to reporters when met after the KKB by-election nomination process at the Hulu Selangor District Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex here.

The KKB by-election, which begins today, sees a four-cornered fight among candidates from PH, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an Independent candidate.

Pang Sock Tao, 31, former Press Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, representing PH, is facing off against Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting division head Khairul Azhari Saut, representing PN, Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM), and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is being held due to the demise of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, from the DAP, on March 21 due to cancer.

Early voting is on May 7 and polling on May 11.
